A semester long film project that follows a poison dart frog who has trouble navigating everyday life with her toxic touch.
Backgrounds and Layouts
The entirety of Dart takes place in the same patch of woods by a pristine lake. The backgrounds showcase this setting in many angles and spots. The overall premise of the film centers around a friendly gathering on a nice sunny day, so the backgrounds aim to match this using muted soft colors and puffy rounded shapes to make the forest seem sort of cozy and peaceful.
Character Process: Dart and Bea
The designs of Dart and Bea are very loosely based on their real life frog counterparts. A main challenge was finding exactly how to portray an anthropomorphized frog in a uniquely cute way. Many shapes and body proportions were experimented with to find a way to capture the squishy, frog like, aesthetic while also having room to distinguish the two main characters from each other.
